Description

From Madrid's heart a sudden fire arose, As Spain rejected Joseph's foreign crown, Against Bonaparte s rule came people's blows, With freedom sought, Empire Fran ais broke down. With blade and musket, line and skirmish bold, The Spanish Regulars with courage fought, While Guerrilla bands in mountain folds, A slow constriction to invaders brought. Then Russia beckoned; Nemesis cold stare, As Napoleon's legions drained away, Now the sun-baked soil was Wellington's lair, Led his troops forward in martial display. Victory to victory he won and rode, To break the pride that once on Ebro flowed. This is a simplified strategic wargame simulating the Peninsular War in Portugal, Spain, and Southern France. You command the French and their Bonapartist allies against a coalition of the Spanish army, guerrillas, and the Anglo-Portuguese force. The game models the historical French troop drawdown – from their peak to depletion by the Russian and Sixth Coalition Wars. Each counter represents about 20,000 soldiers, or a concentration of guerrilla forces. The game map uses a Voronoi/tiled system based on political boundaries, river and mountain demarcations. The player explores the role of Spanish Forces (regulars and guerrilleros), the Anglo Portuguese Alliance all set against the drawdown of French Troops from 1812 onwards. The combat system is simple to learn and play and requires D6. There are 8 games suggested to play which explores systematically the influence of each key component in the Peninsular War.
